I was surprised to find ONLY a hard drive in the box when it arrived. It costed another $12 at the computer store by my house to properly connect the hard drive to my PC. The drive is great, I just would have liked to know to purchase the correct parts online rather than make a trip to the store. This should have been visibly marked at the time of purchase.

Hard drive works great on first installation, everything as expected except vendor packing. Mailed USPS in cardboard envelope with styrofoam around drive. One would think a box would be used instead. Cardboard envelope was broken open on 2 sides but drive in good condition so far.

An excellent drive for the money. Very quiet, fast and runs cool. My only complaint is that it does not format to 500 gig as the specs say. After formatting about 40 gig disappeared. I formatted it using Windows Disk manager to NTFS file system.

I bought this hard drive to use as a backup harddrive for my Athlon system which had an extra SATA1 port. The drive came with no extra jumper (I guess that is because it is OEM), had to swipe a jumper of another harddrive to jump the OPT1 jumper to make it work with my older SATA1 port. MORE IMPORTANTLY, this drive does NOT have a legacy 4-pin power port. It only has the newer 15 pin SATA power port. This was never mentioned inthe description. I had to pay another 10 bucks for an adapter. I am not happy with this. But the drive as such has not shown any problems so far.

The drive works great, and has good performance. I bought it as a 2nd hard drive for a new Gateway computer that I just purchased. Turns out, it's the same basic drive as the primary drive used by Gateway. No problems with the drive at all. You should note that you will need to purchase a SATA-II cable to go along with the drive, if you don't already have one. It comes with the bare drive only -- no cable or installation screws.

I used this for my first computer build. It is fast and quiet and hasn't given me any problems. Shows up in Vista as 465GB, which is normal. The cables and screws I needed already came with my case/motherboard, so no need for the "retail" version... the OEM is fine.

Installed easily under Win2k SP4 - SATA, celeron 2.66ghz, asus board. Must enable LBA in BIOS (board must be LBA capable). Then add registry entry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Services \atapi \Parameters] EnableBigLba = 1 And it was done. 500 glorious GB storage for a paltry $98. How sweet is that?

I have chosen this product to receive whole Hard Drive Package including cables and screws. I haven't seen anywhere mentioned that this is just OEM HDD without these basic accessories which are always included in every HDD package. I haven't installed this HDD yet so I can not comment on performance and reliability which are the most important factor.

I use the Western Digital 500 gig Caviar for my Dell Dimension 8400. And replaced it for my Western Digital Caviar 160 gig Hard Drive that was already in there. Although the 2 Western Digital 160 gig Caviars were in a Raid Series I had to have a technician come in and reformat my Hard Drives for Parallell. I may have had to set my computer up all over again with the software but it works wonders for me now. I have it set up on the 160 gig hard drive for OS and the 500 gig for my DAW System. I admit the technician had to clean out my first hard drive but good thing I had back up software to recover and start over again. The bottomline the Western Digital is the Top of the line when it comes to Hard Drives trust me. Oh by the way I have to start looking for a hard drive enclosure for my other spare 160 gig Hard Drive now. Buy.com I will be looking for one of those here soon. LOL..

I would've never believed prices could be so low. I now longer have to worry about getting new tech (like larger hard drives) since Buy.com entered the scene. Even when they don't have the lowest price they point me in the right direction. For me Western Digital has always been the HDD of choice. I have 10 year old models that still work reliably. WD is amazing! To get their products inexpensively is amazingly amazing!!

I have had no problem with the device. The manufacturer's instructions for mounting were simple and relatively painless: I had it up and working inside five minutes. The drive is quiet and has so far had no problems. A much easier and cheaper way of backup storage than tapes or DVDs.
