5 of 5 Works Perfectly with DISH Network DVR Sunday, April 19, 2009 Tom from Indianapolis, IN
I've filled up over 20 of these with Hi-Def programming from my DISH Network HD DVR - I've never had one failure - couldn't recommend more! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very nice Monday, March 16, 2009 Chris from St. Louis MO
The drive worked as expected. I reformatted it to NTFS for ease of use, and the reformat took quite awhile due to the size of the drive. The power supply unit is a good size, so I intend to buy the storage bag so the power cord and usb cable have a nice place to sit while the drive is transported. It would have been nice to see them bundled together as an option. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Love It --- Excellent Product Sunday, January 25, 2009 Flingy from NJ
Bought this for my son in college when his MacBook Pro's 200GB hd was down to 1.5GB. Formated and partitioned 3 each 250GB for Mac so he can use for various storage. We knew we are going to loose the WD utility since we don't really need them. Now he moves a lot of files to this drive and this drive works well. The laptop works better now with at least 50% free of drive capacity. Note you can buy one of these from Apple that is formeted just for Mac but it will cost more. Excellent value for this drive, thanks to Buy.com! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Perfect Friday, December 12, 2008 A Customer from Hanford CA
I am using this for file backups on my laptop. This WD750 is very quiet and easy to operate. I have Windows Vista operating system and like others, I did a full format of the drive from FAT32 to NTSF. I highly recommend this product. Buy.com did a very good job in shipping the product to me very quickly. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Worked out of the box on XP and FC10 Friday, December 12, 2008 A Customer from Tijeras, NM
I use it to backup both Windows XP and Linux Fedora 10 systems. It was immediately recognized by both systems. Don't use the built in software that runs only on Windows, but this could be useful for Windows users. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Worth every buck spent Thursday, December 11, 2008 Ravi from New Brunswick, NJ
This is a great product. The design is good and has lots of storage. The only downside is it comes with Fat32 file system. It wouldn't make a difference unless you are a movie/video buff and have single files exceeding 4GB. Reformatting to NTFS is a simple process and removes the file size limitation.
In short:Looks good, plenty of storage, works seamlessly with my XP,linux and Mac, Awesome product: worth every buck spent! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Western Digital Mybook 750GB Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Tuan from Milpitas
Working great so far even though not using much, I like its auto on and shut off features. The drive is very quiet. I bought it at 100 dollars which is very good price.
I have quite a few Western Digital HD. So far I have not got any problem. If there is no issue, I plan to continue buying WD HD in the future.
WD has been my top choice for HD drives.

5 of 5 Completely satisfied with WD hard drive Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Jim from Sussex, WI
This was my first experience with an external USB hard drive, other than the memory sticks. Installation was easy and so far it is performing as advertised. I reformatted it to NTSF which takes a while, but again was easily accomplished. Was this review helpful?

No issues whatsoever. Buy.com's service was timely, as always. Sale price was great. I have a WD My Book for my Windows PC and bought this for my daughter's Mac Mini. Plug-N-play both times. When you see these on sale, don't hesitate to buy one! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Works Great Thursday, November 06, 2008 Jeff from Sebastian, FL
This is my 5th WD My Book external hard drive. None have failed. Hook up is easy, just plug and play.
I use most of these to back up my DVR, I can watch recorded HD television from the DVR or directly from the My Book back up. I don't notice any difference in quality when watching from the back up. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Love It! Saturday, October 25, 2008 karpfany0002 from Waldorf, MD
The overall design is great. The drive comes partitioned in another format, but I was able to repartition the drive up from a FAT32 into a NTSF drive very easily.
It is very quiet and takes up less space than you think. It does very quick saves and holds massive amounts of storage.
I highly recommend. BUY.COM has the best price for products and has such ease of use. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So far so good! Monday, October 13, 2008 Ryan Springer from Chicago, IL
Bought 2 of these to achieve a redundant backup.
pros: looks great sitting on my desk, data lights are very atractive and easily seen.
cons: 1-Drives were formated with a FAT partion (overlooked this and transfered lots of data only to realise none of my large video files were able to be transfered. upon realising this I formatted the drives to NTFS and was good to go. I blame myself for this oversight, but you would think that with a large drive such as this that they would show up with an NTFS format. Could have been a decision to deliver in the FAT format to allow more Macintosh compatability.)
2-It's a nice powersaver feature for these drives to spool down when not in use, but it seems to take around 10 seconds at times to get them to spool up again once the drives are needed. Not a huge deal to me since they are mostly used as a backup, but the general speed of these drives is not the greatest. If your looking for speed you should spend a little bit more money and get a SATA drive.
Overall, I'm very happy with the drives. Great style, Value and overall good piece of equipment. Would definately recommend over the Seagate line of drives that seem to be very sensitive to shock damage.
A+ Western Digital! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great with my iMac Tuesday, September 09, 2008 Brian from Amherst, NY
I bought this to back up my iMac using Apple's Time Machine backup software. I plugged in the drive, reformatted it, and it's been perfect ever since. Spins up when waking the computer from sleep and spins down for the reverse.
I'm very happy so far. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 WD is a good brand; good $ value for this product Thursday, September 04, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, IL
supposed to be 750 GB. but I end up getting around 700GB.
7% loss of advertised space.
other than that, it's a good USB storage device; easy access, reliable, and small size.
can't really complain :) Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 The Little Guy Works Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Roland from Minneapolis, MN
I own three external hard drives. This one is the neatest, easiest to store, and worked great right out of the box. I re-formatted it, but otherwise, it was a no-brainer. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome Drive Tuesday, August 26, 2008 john from fl
I wrote a review earlier saying it was slow. I was wrong, I forgot to switch it to NTFS. Now its as fast as the 500gb but at 125.00 you get more value. This is a no-brainer value. Im using windows xp and its plug and play. I would delete all the files that come with it though. Also keep in mind that its actually 698gb. But the 500gb are 465gb so its the same ratio. If you read about someones hd failing, every company has duds. My lacie 500gb failed, but Ive since bought 3 lacies no problem. So in conclusion go with value. This is a great value. I'd only buy WD, lacie and seagate though. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works perfectly Tuesday, August 26, 2008 RJ from Springfield, MA
I bought this device to provide nightly backup for three separate computers that are all on a home network. This drive accomplishes that objective just as expected. Since I'm running Windows XP, the first thing I did was to reformat the drive to NTFS, which took less than one minute. Other than the reformatting, it was plug and play, since it was recognized immediately by the operating system. One of the nice features of this unit, is that it is silent - - - the only way I know it is doing something is from the flashing blue light on the front (which I partially covered with a strip of black tape because the light was too bright). 5 of 5 Using external hard drive with Dishnetwork PVR Monday, August 25, 2008 Lee from Oakland, Maine
I plugged the external hard drive into a wall outlet, then cabled the supplied USB cable between the drive and my Dishnetwork HD PVR. The drive immediately fired up and my receiver prompted me to format the drive. The format took minutes. I called Dishnetwork to have the drive activated.
Once that was done, I can now archive recordings (including high definition shows) onto the external hard drive. The drive is silent. I like it! It works!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Couldn't be happier! Monday, August 25, 2008 Steve from Eldersburg, MD
I'm absolutely amazed at how much 750GB really is. I was able to get rid of around 30CD's worth of digital photos and this barely scratched the surface of this drive's capacity. Ease of use was incredibly easy...literally plug it in and your set to go. Now I have everything "under one roof" so-to-speak which will help with organizing my photos and work-flow. And the price...well...it can't be beat! WD has created a truly great and easy and use USB drive! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 My Book and DishTV Saturday, August 23, 2008 George from Monett, MO
I ordered this HDD just in time to connect to my DishTV DVR and I have stored all of the Olympics broadcast on my favorite channel. I transferred the recordings to this HDD every morning and have been viewing it at my leisure. The USB transfer rate easily handles the viewing directly from the HDD and I still have bundles of space left. A great addition to my video system. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Treasure for Data storage Friday, August 15, 2008 A Customer from NewJersy NJ
It looks great and occupy less physical space.
It has only 700GB of available memory to use. As usual, USB port speed is not that great. Apart from that It is easy to use and worth for money.

If I were to do it over again I'd stick to the 500gb ones. They are fantastic and a lot faster than the 750gb. The 750 takes about 7-8 seconds to load a video compared to 1-2 for the 500gb model. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great little ext hard drive Wednesday, August 06, 2008 Bruce from Bedrord, NY
Easy to use, instant set up, worth the purchse.
Comes with 30 day trial for back up software. Wish it came with even some simple back up software instead of a trial. That's why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.
Otherwise a good buy. Was this review helpful?

The actual capacity of the hard drive is usually smaller than what is advertised. My old A-Data external hard drive, which was advertised to have 250GB, has actually 232GB. However, to my great surprise, this Western Digital external hard drive actually only has 698GB while it's advertised to be have 750GB. That's 50GB smaller!!! Biggest lie EVER!!! 1 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Works very well. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Tony Ananda from Chicago, IL
This item solves the problem of a lack of hard drive space very nicely. My only gripe is that when you reboot the computer you have to unplug the USB connection and plug it back in again for the computer to recognize the external hard drive. I can understand why Western Digital made this design decision. Most people who buy external hard drive have laptops. The laptop mentality is to turn the computer on and off. The desktop mentality is to keep it on all the time. It would be nice if you could install the hard drive to be recognized when restarting the computer but it’s a small inconvenience for desktop users. It’s a great unit that will work on any machine. I highly recommend it.
Buy.com did their usual excellent job.

5 of 5 Great product so far Wednesday, July 23, 2008 John from CT
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Picked it up as a backup/extra storage device. Installation was quick and easy. The suggested conversion to NTFS from FAT32 takes a few minutes but was easy to do with the help of Microsoft help. I can't hear the HD over my own breath unless I put my ear up to it. I haven't had it for very long so reliability over time is TBD but so far I like it a lot. FYI Actual usable space is about 700GB, which equates to around 175 DVDs worth of stuff. Was easy to install and use. Doesn't need any fancy software. Just format the hard drive and go. It is an okay value considering it is a Western Digital drive. Performance is acceptable.

5 of 5 Vista Compatible! Woohoo! Sunday, July 13, 2008 A Customer from Boston, MA
This reliable external hard drive is easy to use and just the right size to store my many photos, graphics, and music files. With over 1,000 CDs digitized for my listening pleasure, I needed a big drive with a big heart. I plugged this external in, hooked it up to my computer, and away I went. It's especially nice because there are no conflicts with Vista. After experiencing the amazing blue screen of death on a number of occasions, it was obvious my former WD external hard drive was not compatible with my brand new computer and its sensitive operating system. Love, love, love this WD external hard drive. I just may get another. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 My Book 750GB Sunday, July 13, 2008 A Customer from Waconia, MN
I recently began a three-year online college program. It will eventually involve 3D illustrations and animations, so I anticipate a need for a lot of storage space. This My Book 750GB was easy to install, easy to format the way I wanted, and sits there waiting for my files. I feel confident they will get there when I save them, load easy when I recall them and remain where I can find them on this quiet, reliable hunk of hard drive lovin! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good quality & price, quickly shipped Sunday, July 13, 2008 Jimmy B from Conneaut, Ohio
I have made many purchases through or from buy.com. Overall, I have been more than satisfied. This external was of a competative price (as many buy.com products seem to be) & I was most surprised that I received it after only 3 days...even on free super saver shipping. I am not sure this will always be the case, but I was pleasantly surprised.
After nearly 3 weeks, it seems to be performing well. In my desire to be completely wireless, my searches have not found much in quality for the lower prices in wireless storage yet. This external's USB connections seem to be a little loose to me at both ends, but overall not a huge issue & performance thus far has been good.
I hope this review helps you. Everyone's reviews are of important consideration to me when I am making my buy.com purchases! Happy shopping :-) Was this review helpful? Click here to see all 79 reviews
